Kroo Bank, a UK-based digital bank, enhanced its in-app transaction experience by enriching raw payment data with clean merchant names, logos and location insights. By leveraging Snowdrop’s transaction enrichment solution powered by Google Maps Platform, Kroo improved transaction clarity, reduced customer uncertainty and strengthened trust in its app.

Improving Transaction Recognition and Customer Confidence
Kroo’s customers occasionally struggled to recognise transactions due to unclear or inconsistent merchant data. Their legacy enrichment tool delivered inconsistent merchant names and logos, which not only impacted the user experience but also increased customer support workload, with agents spending 10–15 minutes per case clarifying transaction details.
Kroo needed a solution that could reliably identify merchants, enhance transaction clarity, and provide users with contextualised insights at a glance.
Solution
Enriched Transactions with Merchant and Location Context
Kroo selected Snowdrop’s transaction enrichment API — powered by the extensive global points-of-interest data from Google Maps Platform — to transform raw transaction strings into recognisable merchant names, logos and categories.
The integration works by taking raw transaction fields and matching them against the Google Maps Places database, returning clean merchant names and logos along with structured categorisation. For even greater clarity, geolocation data is used to display a merchant’s exact location on a map, giving users visual confirmation of their spending.
Within seven weeks, Kroo had deployed a pilot version of the enriched data experience to a subset of users.

With enriched transaction data in place, Kroo customers can now clearly recognise where and when a payment took place, thanks to clean merchant names, logos and location context. This reduces uncertainty around transactions and helps users feel more confident and in control of their finances.
The clearer presentation of transactions has also had a positive operational impact. By removing ambiguity at source, Kroo reduced the volume of customer support queries related to unrecognised payments, allowing support teams to focus on higher-value interactions.
